Earlier I rewatched Mermaid Scar (1993). The re-emergent popularity of Ranma probably is what brought it to mind, though as an annoying Maison Ikkoku fangirl for over 25 years, I probably needed little prompting.

I often see the categorical condemnation of people based on where they live, absolving oneself and those in one's area of any wrongdoing and conflating region with morality or merit. Dunno if you meant to condemn all rural people for the foolishness of a few, but it came off that way.
