I hate what school does to kids like your bf. The fault lies with the schools. They are not teaching kids who learn differently.

Some people cannot be taught to read text. I am retired reading teacher. I did have students that were not able to process text.
However, their auditory processing was just fine.

The voice of the narrator. I listen to audiobooks while I doing something that doesn’t require attention, like cleaning. I read a book when I want to sit. I get to enjoy books all day.
