The quid pro quo he describes is real but I think most of them actually like Cuomo, or at least hate Mamdani. This guy is much closer to the left on street stuff, which is probably what the mayor can influence the most

I love this in principle, but instead of creating yet another grant bureaucracy to vacuum up researcher's time, wouldn't it be more effective to fund CA's existing basic research institutions, the UCs, which will suffer tremendously under looming cuts?

Historically Rs were actually better for basic science funding in some ways. Dems are traditionally the ones pushing applications. The project 2025 doc actually proposes refocusing DOE/NSF back to fundamental science
