The quid pro quo he describes is real but I think most of them actually like Cuomo, or at least hate Mamdani. This guy is much closer to the left on street stuff, which is probably what the mayor can influence the most

I love this in principle, but instead of creating yet another grant bureaucracy to vacuum up researcher's time, wouldn't it be more effective to fund CA's existing basic research institutions, the UCs, which will suffer tremendously under looming cuts?

Historically Rs were actually better for basic science funding in some ways. Dems are traditionally the ones pushing applications. The project 2025 doc actually proposes refocusing DOE/NSF back to fundamental science

I agree with all the criticisms of Zitron but I also sometimes wonder if holding people to standards like correctness and nuance is why there is no "left Rogan"

The correct angle IMO is that NIMBYism and associated regulations force the buildings to be as ugly as they are to most people

This is a pretty common take in YIMBY circles (maybe because of the prevalence of tech people?) and I sincerely believe that it actively harms the movement

Everyone's denying this but it's true people were saying this. And they were correct! Bush was far worse than Trump I. Even Jan 6 is comparable to Bush v. Gore. Nobody was downplaying Trump II though
