Glad you are posting this. I've been saying this for years. I can't remember when any of my faculty submitted a modular R01 proposal in the past few years. We generally submit detailed budgets with direct costs around $450K. NCI only funds at the 83% level anyway.

What did you stock up on? I'm not really sure what to stock up on. I usually have at least a months worth of everything I need. A case of TP from Costco lasts 6 months as does a case of their paper towels.

I don't think he was encouraging hoarding. Stock up like you would in prep for a hurricane or similar natural disaster maybe. It is hard to do if you have a large family.
