Ah, so you do see that being offended is entirely based on someones perception of something and that thing might not actually be intended to be, or is actually in any way offensive or worth being offended by, my work is done.

I have family living in Scotland, traced back hundreds of years in Scotland, my family (like many) has a coat of arms & a tartan. My Italian heritage goes back hundreds of years in Italy, as does my English, Irish, German & Dutch heritage. So what images of the UK or Europe should I be offended by?
December 2, 2025 at 3:31 PM
I'm sure they can complain, but you are taking this way out of context from the original point, which was people forming their entire opinion and being offended by it based on a picture rather than actually reading the article, then getting defensive about it because they were called out.

He isn't, I would be very surprised if he "chose" it knowing as I do how websites work. "the decision to include images is an editorial choice that should align with the article's purpose and audience" i.e. it's usually a picture editor or media team that picks the images.

Well I hope it remains as I have family in Scotland and we are all just people born in different made up places... I would hope if Brexit has taught us anything, being in a union working together is far better then going at it alone.
November 24, 2025 at 10:16 AM
Again, I should just copy and paste this from now on.... you are focusing on a single website image to form your opinion rather than reading the actual article (which only refers to Scotland in that they haven't privatised their water). The writer would not have chosen that image, the Web team did.

Nationalisation of utilities is the goal but as Govts seem allergic to the idea they could always put in a Hybrid Govt/corporate solution which ensures that the services come first before shareholders, could be tricky to balance it to ensure prviate investment but it could work if done right.
November 22, 2025 at 4:54 PM
It used to be OK, it's definitely got worse since the water companies were privitised in England.
November 22, 2025 at 8:28 AM
Maybe or some Website apprentice was given a crap brief to add an image to the article and didn't do a great job, we'll never know.
November 20, 2025 at 8:41 PM
However I am outraged that this article about Scottish water didn't mention that England's water is shit.... Not one mention of it!! www.thenational.scot/news/2558601...
Scottish Water completes record £235m investment to deliver 'world class water'

I didn't see it, so I have absolutely no opinion on it at all, like the world used to be before social media and people weren't saturated with information to be outraged about. I don't get offended when I see things about somewhere else and it doesn't say, well not England.
November 20, 2025 at 8:38 PM
So if he's English and says We, he's referring to England isn't he. The article (if you read it) is about England (it mentions Scotland hasn't privatised it's water) and the article is in the Yorkshire Bylines. I think people are over reacting over the incorrect use of a picture showing the UK.
November 20, 2025 at 8:29 PM
Or, you could not be so outraged by a picture of the UK being used for an article about Yorkshire, featured in the Yorkshire Bylines. Also, the last time I checked, Scotland was still part of the United Kingdom.
November 17, 2025 at 6:28 PM
Or, people these days are lazy/quick to judge and form an opinion before looking at all the information and just want to confirm their own bias to justify being angry/offended by something, like a picture.
November 17, 2025 at 6:19 PM
It could be implying that it could eventually be the whole of the UK, as the article suggests.
November 17, 2025 at 6:15 PM
I did read your post, perhaps the image is suggesting that it could eventually affect the whole of the UK as companies are sold off, the article even suggests that.
November 17, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Oh, so you didn't read the article, the outrage was at the picture they used. Perhaps, they are suggesting that the sale of data could end up being the whole UK and not just England... I mean who knows, as it's just a picture.
November 17, 2025 at 11:08 AM
It's a picture, I'd suggest people should read the article and not base an opinion/outrage on a picture, it's why social media is such a rubbish dump atm.
November 17, 2025 at 11:06 AM
He's sharing an article from Yorkshire, which is still in England last time I checked. Did you even read the article? It refers to NHS England. It also states that Wessex and Northumbria are privitised water owned by non UK companies. It even mentions Scottish water as being publically owned.

Lucky that it isn't 3, can see the gulf in quality between a newly promoted side and a top prem side. Struj unlucky to not score but need to do their best to keep second half at the very least to 0-0.

Johnny Depp must be getting $300m and a million Alpacas to return then.

Anyone else think this is a red herring?
