That's too bad. It was pretty awesome, especially for us old guys -- I'm sure you got the debrief. (Though the flyby was rather weak.)

You there with Monroe Smith? What years? I was in VF-24 1981-84
December 31, 2025 at 4:16 PM
Too bad it's not a VF-24/ Renegade aircraft!

He was in a pickle but escaped in the nick of thyme.
Relishing the verdict.

barriers which prevent the make-up of Congress from accurately reflecting the electorate.
Then, when next the Democrats do regain control of Congress, they could begin the process of enacting these electoral reforms (and others, like RCV) rather than continually fighting rearguard actions. (33/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
If more Representatives were added to the House, this too would help the Electoral College more accurately reflect the will of the people.
The only way any of this can change—and all the other issues addressed—is for voters to turn out in numbers so great to overcome the structural (32/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Right now, Republicans have little reason to campaign in solid blue States like California—while Democrats would have greater incentive to campaign in Red Texas. (31/34)

much reduced of someone being elected for President with a minority of votes. The added benefit would be to make all States battlegrounds—if all Electoral Votes are equal, where they come from is not important. (30/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
But, there’s no reason why Congress can’t dictate and/or the Courts decide that the “winner take all system” for States’ Electors is null and void. If the Electoral Count of a State reflected the same proportion of votes for each candidate as the election dictated, the chance would be (29/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Requiring an actual filibuster, rather than a super-majority vote for cloture, would help reduce it’s abuse.
As for the Presidency, the Electoral College is going nowhere. (28/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Short of splitting Texas and California into two—or combining the Dakotas or Wyoming and Montana—the Senate is left with its number. But they could change the rules on the filibuster, to prevent a minority from stopping needed legislation.(27/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
We could also increase the number of Representatives in the House, shrinking the disparity in representation between the high and low population States. Such smaller districts would also be more difficult to actively gerrymander. (26/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
One way would be to require, to the greatest extent possible, that Districts follow preexisting political and/or geographic boundaries—cities, counties, rivers, etc. This would help ensure that the Representatives elected more accurately reflect the populations they represent. (25/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Nutin’, of course
But what could we do?
Congress could dictate rules in the drawing of Districts which are not nakedly partisan. It has the authority to do so. (24/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
disparity is why issues polled nationally (gun control, abortion, climate change, criminal justice reform, budget and tax issues, etc.) tend to reflect a center/left consensus—but legislation and obstruction flavor results to seem much more center/right.
What to do, what to do?! (23/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
“knew” that their vote was superfluous, had made a selection. Could Arkansas become “blue”? (Certainly there are other races and issues on every ballot, but the Presidency is often the draw. Mid-term and other elections never achieve the same turnout as the Presidential.)
This (22/34)
April 12, 2025 at 8:48 PM
There’s little incentive for a Democrat in Idaho, or a Republican in Vermont, to vote in a Presidential election knowing their vote won’t “count”. Imagine if the 46 percent of the electorate in Arkansas that did not cast ballots in the last presidential election, partly because they (21/34)
