Wrapping up our Virtual Reality session! Students explored art and design by crafting immersive digital worlds using Open Brush and Open Blocks. Their creativity came to life in an interactive environment that pushed the boundaries of expression. Thank you to Fabio for leading this experience.

Over 8 weeks, Grade 8 students from Edmund Partridge teamed up with filmmaker Ben Stouffer and teacher Braden Berens-Squires to create a time-traveling turtle film. From writing to filming at Studio Lab XR, students explored identity and storytelling through hands-on film work.

We welcomed Daphne McKemy for a dynamic K–6 workshop on using coding to boost literacy, numeracy, and 21st-century skills. Educators explored age-appropriate tools, cross-curricular coding, and wrapped up by sharing insights and launching our first STEAM library.

Arthur E. Wright students joined a 6-week in-class coding workshop with Cogmation Robotics, led by Priyanka Tuteja. With support from teachers Karlos & Jennifer, students tackled real robotics challenges and later mentored Grade 5s — a proud moment of student leadership!

Honoured to kick off the Asian Heritage Month High School Symposium at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. I spoke on culture, compassionate leadership, the model minority myth, and how tech is reshaping representation. Grateful to connect at such a meaningful event.

Our students’ game Souper Cooked will be showcased on Tuesday June 10th! Artists are polishing assets while programmers fix bugs and pull everything together. Students also completed self-evaluations, reflecting on their Tech Hub experience and offering feedback to help mentors improve.

Huge thanks to our mentor Avery for introducing students to virtual production and Unreal Engine 5. They explored facial and motion capture, toured a virtual set, and began building 3D scenes—gaining hands-on experience with tools used in the film industry.

Our mentor Kyleah led students through rigging and animation in Blender. They’re now collaborating on final projects, sharing feedback and progress. Students also visited Studio Lab xR for the first Skills Manitoba Game Design Competition, where they explored and playtested student-made games.

Led by Avery Powell, students built alleyway scenes using Quixel Bridge and explored Unreal Engine basics for film. We also welcomed R.B. Russell High School students, who showcased their game engine work and got a glimpse of what our students are learning.

Guest speaker Sylvie Ong from Wawanesa shared how data helps improve road safety. Students asked about tools, code, and careers. Meanwhile, our class made big strides—3D artists worked on characters, and programmers refined scripts for their game projects.

Exchange students engaged in mentor sessions to discuss Tech Hub experiences, assess progress, and identify improvements. They completed self-evaluations on bug fixing and finalized their game project. For Exhibition Day, they prepared slideshows to showcase their game and work.

Exchange students used Rokoko motion capture suits to showcase their acting skills by portraying characters like trolls and robots. The suits captured motion data, transmitted to a computer and instantly mapped onto a 3D character, animating their performances on screen.

Our students at Garden City's after-school game design program had an amazing session with Kale, exploring computer programming. They learned the importance of functions and their use in Unity. Kale provided small levels for them to test their code and see functions in action!

This week, mentor Sujal helped students upload their game to Itch and taught profiling and optimization. They attended a lecture on industry networking, rehearsed for an exhibition, and ended with Jackbox games to boost teamwork.
