It's a mucky day out there with rain slowly melting the snow and ice, so here's 'Summer Landscape' (oil on canvas - 1955) by English artist Edward Middleditch RA. A welcome splash of colour.

With the latest storm approaching, here's one of my photos from a series taken of the trees in wind and rain at midnight a few weeks back. I'm in the middle of making a handmade book using them.

Autumn colours tentatively begin. Actually, this year they started in mid August due to lack of rain. It'll be interesting to see if Autumn colours will be done and dusted by mid October when usually at their best.

My last drawing of #DrawingAugust is of a poor tree split by Storm Arwen in Nov 2021. The fallen trees are a daily reminder of the power of the storm. Hopefully not to be repeated any time soon.

#DrawingAugust today is a monotype print. It could be better but it’s a process I’m just learning. #DrawingAugust2025

#DrawingAugust today is a digital drawing on Procreate. The finished work always looks a bit ‘digital’ compared to pencil on paper but it’s very freeing with that magical undo button. #DrawingAugust2025

Todays #DrawingAugust is of one of the dogs long suffering toys. An orange chameleon with a look of fear in its eyes. #DrawingAugust2025

Studio scissors drawn in charcoal for today's #DrawingAugust. I must get some new ones because these are really uncomfortable to use. I've put up with them for years, not sure why. Anyway here's a permanent reminder of them.

A bit of an experiment for today's #DrawingAugust Messing about with how tree branches grow. A bit Andy Goldsworthy or something. #DrawingAugust2025

The 2nd swallow brood from the same nest in the garage. The 1st was a gang of 5 baby swallows. Amazing to think they'll be flying all the way to southern Africa soon. They fly over the Sahara desert and the Congo rainforest to get there - from my garage! *scratches head in amazement

Today’s #DrawingAugust is an imagined tree in the storm of yesterday. I live in rural Aberdeenshire surrounded by trees and they were being shredded by 70mph winds. Drawn using Procreate which I’m learning to use. It’s good fun. #DrawingAugust2025

Day 3 of #DrawingAugust Continuing my series of charcoal drawings studying the flow of water around rocks. Charcoal is brilliant at showing movement as it's so easy to smudge.

Day 2 of #DrawingAugust. I'm working on a series of charcoal drawings studying the movement of water around stone. I love the way US charcoal artist Emily Nelligan drew this subject so thought I'd give it a go. Using charcoal is really freeing too.

I've been messing about with ideas that I've had for a while. This is a section of a concertina book that has pop-op sections cut into my photographs. I painted onto the photos to highlight the sections. I quite like it.
