I think the general bad vibe around Sims and EA is draining creativity. It's like a contagious virus that's currently ravaging the community.
I experienced a similar meltdown myself a little over a year ago when EA closed The Sims Forum and I lost most of my reader-writer network...

I've been put on an involuntary break due to some technical issues on my blog. When I finally found my way back into the game I found it quite liberating to play without any goals. Suddenly plots and ideas started to pour out like weeds.
