If it wasn't for there being a Switch 1 version I could honestly see the issues with texture work in place of models being non existent. This gives me some hope that future Pokemon games will look good and run well.

I honestly think SMM3 is going to be the big game for Mario's 40th anniversary. SMM2 never got an update for mouse controls like Game Builder Garage, it'll be a good showcase for mouse mode for Switch 2, and it won't take away from DK being the big 3D platformer for the year.
