My first job was fighting gulls. A seaside pub had large outdoor tables: when a family stood up, 30 gulls would descend. Absolute carnage. My job was to get there first. The trick is to grab them while they’re still above your head, as if they’re a falling cola bottle. Then hurl them back upwards.

The only way I can easily cope with ‘news’ is to put the international and the local side-by-side. A heady mix of, say, warfare served with cleansing postal delays.

Ok so I stepped away from social during nobhead’s first term cos yeah, it was consuming everyone. So I started a little newsletter and set myself some strict rules, including no current affairs and no links to substack or tweets. A few people said they liked it but I did it for me.

K.O.II, and set aside some time, for everything is fiddly until it isn’t.

Thank you for sharing. I can only sympathise. I would love to be able to urge you to complain, but the BBC News complaints process needs completely rethinking.

I have complained about a different but significant issue, and what a waste of time it proved.

I complained. The BBC’s response is perplexing.

Love licence fee debates where we go line-by-line through the Radio Times and argue against paying based on the items that don’t appeal to us specifically.

Also:

I don’t have kids, why should I pay for all these schools?

I only own one car, why am I paying for both sides of the motorway?

I’m happy to come onto that project in a non-exec advisory role, just as soon as I’ve watched the mould out of my hair.
