Yesterday I woke up and enjoyed a fire by my bedside. I finished my book, I had coffee, talked with friends, and enjoyed the brisk fall day.

Today I woke up in my own bed as my alarm went off. I'm back to work and already dreaming of when I can get away for another weekend of nature and quiet.

Me today:
"Where to begin, for my faculties have been exhausted by perpetual toil, and incessant application has so stripped me of vitality that I am scarcely able to summon the strength requisite for the smallest effort."
Basic English: I'm burnt out. Neutral English: I'm completely drained. Formal English: I feel entirely depleted. Academic English: I have reached the point of complete exhaustion. Gentlemanly English: I have been worked to the very marrow. Aristocratic English: I find myself lamentably incapacitated by fatigue. Visiting the tide pools and Yaquina Head Lighthouse today. The cobbles (beach rocks) are so smooth here that they bounce. Fun to see all the starfish, anemones, baby crabs, tiny fish, snails, mussels, barnacles, and other sea creatures.
A 9 year old and their pop-pop walk along the rocks as they begin to explore the tide pools on this Pacific North West coastline.

Who gets the credit? Focusing on who is credited rather than citation and consequences for not citing properly.

This engages students and connects them to citation in the framework of fairness and credit.

New lesson plan slide: shift away from rules toward discussion. Add discussion about why we cite and focus on Who should get credit. Who Gets Credit slide with inventions that students are prompted to look into. Includes things like: monopoly, The Pulsar, Kayak, Bluetooth, Cotton Scraper, Steamboat Propeller, Nuclear Fission, etc. Activity slide. In groups of 2-3, students get a handout and use their personal devices to find information and fill out a Google form with 3 questions: Is there controversy about credit, who originally got credit, and who should have gotten credit? Student responses slide. Responses to this activity were immediate and relatable. Students were outraged by some of the examples they researched.

Pilot courses include data science, calculus, physics Spanish, and biology.
Used four different homework systems. Common feedback: existing documentation was easy to use, auto-grading saved time, systems provided insights into student learning, & all faculty would recommend use to others. #ACRL2025

It's time for Democratizing Homework: Library Support for Interactive Courseware.

This paper presentation addresses expensive commercial homework systems and working to substitute OERs for science, language, and other high-cost courses.
