The year is 2035. I meet President AOC in the Oval Office. "You've done well," she says. "By telling men to dress gay, you've lowered the population rate by 90%, thereby reducing carbon emissions." She slides me a manilla envelope. I can now afford a home in a walkable neighborhood

Writing tip: After you finish, go back & cut all the adverbs. Then all the adjectives. Then all the other words. Eat the paper. Now you're free.

Day one of 2025 was spent at a party in an abandoned gold mine so I feel like I'm off to a good start

This calls for a cyberpunk Wrangler crossover
The most frustrating thing for me about our cyberpunk dystopia is that we didn’t even get the cyberpunk aesthetic. We out here breathing toxic air & losing our job to robots in some fucking wrangler jeans I’m SICK

Why are we all saying "gifted" now? "She gifted me a card."

A word for this already exists and the word you're looking for is "gave".

Gave. She gave me a card. Life is hard enough as is. Why do we keep reinventing words that already exist? Why are we doing this to ourselves

This was one of my favorite reads of 2024! Everything Leif Enger writes is gold.

My kids (4 and 7) got into an argument in the car about "The Vegetable Experience". Despite both of them having very strong opinions, I have NO CLUE what they're talking about. At least they love vegetables, I guess?

My 7yo: "Mom, what does Satanic mean?"

I, with my religion degree, take a deep breath and start to explain.

Son is confused. "I thought it was something in the ocean?"

My mind floods with terrifying anglerfish. Then it clicks.

"Do you mean the Titanic? Yeah, no, that's... something different."

Yesterday I typed the two biggest words of my 2nd work-in-progress. I'm calling this a zero draft because it needs a lot more work to count as a first. But despite knowing how much still lies ahead, I'm pretty happy with where I've landed.

Next up, revising: my favorite part. #writingcommunity

I had to have a small amount of skin cancer removed yesterday (I'm totally fine! Go get a skin check, etc!). But I did learn that a really good way to weird your dermatologist out is to call her surgical scooping tool a "melon baller" 😬

Hello! I write fiction from my home in rural CO, where there's no road maintenance or cell service. Former volunteer firefighter + opera singer; current parent, insatiable reader, and amateur mechanic/ welder with a mostly-useless degree in comparative religion. #writingcommunity friends welcome!
