Got my first ChatGPT writer scam email! Casey Mcquistonq (lol) emailed me about my "[sci-fi/fantasy elements or a theme from one of her books, insert here if you’ve read a specific title]."

What's intriguing is that the email does then talk about my interests and things from my website? Very sus.

That's so funny! I have the Jane Austen finger puppet from them too, and she does NOT look like that:

Best part of the Decemberists concert last night was that, while ending the show on "Mariner's Revenge Song," he told us to scream at the relevant moment and then said, "You're from Halifax, you know what it's like to be eaten by a whale" 🐋 ⚓️

I first read Middlemarch in @rohanmaitzen.bsky.social's close reading class, and she described the book as a battle between the words "ardent" and "petty." I absolutely loved that, so I got this and then didn't tell Rohan until I was graduating. (Evenstar added later)

On the flip side, if you sign books like this, everyone adores you.

A peek behind the revisions curtain: I use story maps to revise my own work, just like I do for my editing clients!

Below is a story map colour-coded for different characters and arcs in chapter four of my manuscript, along with notes in bold for things to change.

#Writers, you can do this too! 💙📚

An example of the sort of very professional margin comments I leave on my clients' manuscripts.

Authors, your editor should leave positive feedback in addition to identifying problems. A good editor will tell you what worked well, what they loved, and when they got too excited about a title drop!

If you have taken your manuscript as far as you can on your own, you’re ready for professional editing.

Whether you’re looking for developmental editing for plot/character issues you just can’t work out or copyediting for the final polishing of your manuscript, I’d love to chat!

#Writers, have you recently completed your manuscript? Are you contemplating hiring a professional to help you with your next steps?

Figuring out when to hire an editor can be hard, so take it from a professional: If you're still on a first draft, it's not time yet.

If a tariff on US books is approved, Canadian authors and Canadian books get caught in the crossfire—including, for example, our prime minister's! PM Mark Carney's book, seemingly as Canadian as you could get, is printed in the US and therefore subject to tariffs.

In addition to filling out the form with your feedback on the proposed 25% tariff on books, you can also send an email to remissions-remises@fin.gc.ca, with "U.S. Remission" in the subject line.

do you ever get so into a specific historical dress that you decide to make it a foundational part of your next story or is that just me?
