Candida albicans is a major fungal pathogen whose virulence is linked to filamentation. Its relative, C. dubliniensis, filaments less and rarely causes disease . Meza-Davalos et al. explore the regulatory basis for this difference.

Amidotransferases are essential for protein lipoylation in diverse eukaryotes. The selective inhibition by 8-bromooctanoate of amidotransferases from Capsaspora owczarzaki and Plasmodium falciparum reveals a conserved and druggable mechanism.
