It made a bad instrument worse and I didn’t pursue Charlie’s techniques much longer than I did Stanley Jordan’s (about 3 months each), but it did crack open the door a little wider to my future as an instrument hacker and designer. Thanks again for supporting what I do dad ❤️

lousy instrument was holding me back. Later, in my relatively short “Charlie Hunter phase”, I cut all the frets to 2/3rds and put bass guitar strings in there for the bottom two. This effectively gave me two strings of fretless bass to do my walking-bass-plus-comping-thing.

offering support as we began our family life together. I already miss my friends who moved away from Indianapolis (obviously), but the fact that they keep in touch gives me hope that I’ll continue to grow the friendships I’ve found here in Indy for a long time to come!

I’ll miss the fine people at Machyne Makerspace who gave me a place to craft my inventions while helping me learn new fabrication techniques. I’ll miss Mélanie’s colleagues at Butler University who have been so incredibly kind to us from the moment we set foot in this city,
