Building iconzoo.com
It's always great when you watch it after a year or two...

I'll start again tonight! 😂

I'm building IconZoo.com

It's a directory of over 230k open-source icons.

It still needs a lot of work. I launched it 2 months ago and then got busy with some client work.

48K backlinks???? 🥳

I don't even have 48... 😂

Did you submit to a lot of directories?

What gave the biggest boost to your backlink profile?

Wow! That was so fast. Amazing work, Andrei!

Thanks

Right now, I'm building a site called IconZoo.com

It's a directory of over 230k open source icons.

I don't really have a plan with this site.

Thanks for posting updates, Lars. Your updates motivate and inspire me!

I wish someone would come up with an open (like Bluesky/mastadon) version of HN.

But the main part of HN is the people they already have. No new platform would be able to woo all those people over.

Yeah, I want to try it out on a project too. Anything Tanner makes is always gold! :)

Have you tried Astro? It's a beauty when it comes to static content mixed with dynamic. It's amazing.

I start all my new projects with it. And it supports all popular frameworks and libraries.

Do you think all the effort is worth it? I've used Tanstack Query in the past and it was joyful!

What's the biggest benefit you think you'll get out of switching to Tanstack Start?

I recently saw one guy sell a course about how you can get rich by building no-code job boards. 😂🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure if I would ever do it but I like seeing people share their product's MRR.

It really inspires me because most of the products aren't "groundbreaking" or "industry shakers." A lot of them have enterprise-level, established competitors.

Seeing their numbers makes me feel it's possible.

Amazing!

A good coding session is all you need to get out of a slump.

Now just keep the momentum going. :)

we can put a hard cap on the number of users.

"Sorry, my $10 VPS can only handle 300 users at this time. We will email you when someone deletes their account."
November 24, 2024 at 5:35 AM
That's usually the case. Enterprises and established companies usually have really shitty APIs that are difficult to work with even though they have hundreds of developers.

Tiny 3 people teams on the other hand crank out easy-to-use APIs with clear examples. Big companies should learn from them!

I love it!

Thanks a lot, Joel. You're awesome.

I love the idea of building Zod schemas for everything and exporting the types from that same file.

I'll try this structure in my projects.
November 24, 2024 at 3:03 AM
That makes sense! Thanks, Joel!

Thanks, Mark!

Keep it up, mate! I'll be checking in... :)

You just inspired me to get back to my project. It's a Sunday but it's a good day for some coding!

When I first joined Twitter, it was already too late for me.

Bluesky seems like how Twitter should be and must have been back in the day!

I don't know. 5 hours of uninterrupted coding flow sounds more relaxing than almost anything else I can think of doing...

Hope you had fun! :)

Two questions:

What would be a good alternative you'd suggest? I don't have a lot of experience with Next.js or similar frameworks.

What is o11y?
November 24, 2024 at 2:47 AM
Can I be in it? I'm just getting started! :)

It doesn't really matter in the long run. There are a lot of startup killing it with content marketing and SEO who use .app domain.

But in general, if I can get a .com, I would rather go with that. It's supposed to be easier for SEO in the beginning.
