Today United Nations Oceans' Conference (hashtag#UNOC3) started in Nice, France (until 13 June). It's time to act for the oceans: Rapidly rising ocean temperatures and decreasing PH value lead to current 4th mass bleaching of corals (with all corals likely to be extinct by the end of the century).

📯 Just now: Annalena #Baerbock of Germany is elected #President of the 80th session of the #UnitedNations General Assembly (UNGA). Ms Baerbock was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany until early May 2025.

Gestern informierte die UNESCO, dass die nicaraguanische Zeitung La Prensa ihren Pressefreiheitspreis 2025 erhält. Die Journalist*innen der seit 1926 erscheinenden Zeitung kämpfen gerade jüngst gegen Unterdrückung.

Nun hat Nicaragua aus Protest seinen Austritt aus der UNESCO angekündigt.

Yesterday, UNESCO announced that La Prensa, newspaper of Nicaragua, will be the laureate of its 2025 Award for Press Freedom. The newspaper of 1926 and its journalists always had to fight repression, in particular recently.

Now, Nicaragua, protesting this award, announced withdrawal from UNESCO.

Historic decision on #Syria! For 1st time, upon initiative of #Germany, #UNESCO Executive Board discussed education, culture and media in Syria.

Decision adopted by consensus with 59 co-sponsors. Calls for a programme that Germany will support financially, as ambassador Kerstin Pürschel announced.

VERY important day for UNESCO 9 April: from 9.30am 3 candidates for next UNESCO Director-General will be interviewed. Election in October.

The candidates are: Firmin Matoko from Congo, Gabriela Ramos from Mexico and Khaled El-Enany from Egypt.
