This made my day. Spent a wonderful week in Edinburgh a few years ago and bought as a gift a watercolor & ink painting of Royal Mile with famous red phone booth in background. It has a dreamy quality to it, something half remembered. Your evocative work takes me back to a happy time.

😆 literally lol’d. Somewhere I have pic of my rescue, a big ole Maine Coon cat, in a box too wee for his mass.

Things happen?!? WTF. Weather happens. But the death of Jamal Khashoggi was a thoroughly planned and gruesome execution. He was disappeared.

Feels like I’m overhearing a snippet of a stranger’s cell phone conversation, yet this seems sound advice.

Read 1984 as a teen, found it profound and disturbing but - whew! - just a work of fiction. Fifty years later I reread it before election. Gawd it hit hard. Newspeak, doublespeak, revisionist history, fueling fear, disappearing people, oppressive surveillance. Reread Timothy Snyder - very helpful.

🤣 lawdy, your post was my first laugh of the day. And it’s been a very long day.

Oh my, those pesky sentence clauses again. Thanks for sharing the complete sentence.

Wow! My first impression: vast and claustrophobic at same time. It’s a compelling photo.

All fun and games til someone gets hurt. Someone being a zillionaire. But if you’re skint? Off ye go into the sea. Survival of the richest as God intended.

I despise this guy with every fiber of my being.

Those USA chants…it’s horrifying. I came upon Dr Snyder’s post just after seeing this WSJ headline:

DHS Is Considering Reality Show Where Immigrants Compete for Citizenship

The echoing chants of the ad, the reality show concept - it all reeks of ancient Roman death matches.

I’m a Great War nerd - appreciate the link. Lost 2 great uncles on both mom and dad’s sides. History isn’t just what’s written in books. It’s the stories we tell and pass down through the generations.

True!!! Switched L & N this weekend talking state of the union stuff with a friend. Didn’t even realize I’d done it til buddy laughed bigly.
May 12, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Yes! The irony is sickening. Voight’s playbook defends it - pesky govt union jobs aren’t the right kind of jobs. Goal: Privatize & run roughshod (eg., at-will employment, use contract employees to off-load govt pension & healthcare benefits) - boom nice profit margin. More for me, less for thee.
