Look. I’m as surprised as anyone that I grew up to look like Festus.
OR! 87 was the best year for reading the X-men. The anticipation of when the main team was gonna find out about Jean was exciting. Cyclops bug out made him less likable but more interesting. I think knowing this all came from editorial buggery makes it SEEM worse in retrospect. Plus Classic X-men.

The all time champ of this was Blair Witch. Worked at a movie theater during its run and there was an aggressive belief it was real. Saying “they’re alive. The chick was on Leno last night” could start a fight.

The Chadster is a good premise with poor execution. I genuinely don’t know if you’re saying this was good or not. Do you?

Sal Buscema’s reinvention of himself for the 90s produced some really great comics. It probably stated with his team up with Simonson on Thor but it led to him looking completely at home next to young upstarts like McFarlane and Larsen.

Well, you did.

Everyone thinks when they got into a thing was the best time to get into a thing but late 80s really was the BEST time to get into X-men. Because in addition to the current books you had this, with Art Adams covers/John Bolton back ups, putting out the classics!

Also best Lucero record.

Comics don’t get much better than that!

I feel like if this was really important to Rollins, he wouldn’t have wore his pajamas to work.

Uncle Walt is THE best.

I mean at this point, I’m mostly in it for the pedals. I just like stepping on things. But I think the JM pickups are good for that.

That checks all my boxes! I love the JM shape, the strat wang and I don’t like paying double for a different sticker!

Geeks are and always will be wrong for choosing Rush as their top D&D soundtrack over BOC.

So I went with the 2nd Action Comics 1. Both because it’s a sorta tribute to the golden age and because I’m genuinely surprised it’s not the basis of the new movie. If this was gonna be in universe with The Batman, this version of supes coulda fit. But also The Batman sucks.

I have about 7 versions of this comic. The ones I used were the most recent facsimile and the Chip Kidd book where he did a close photo of every panel. I wish the facsimile woulda been printed on something not glossy but whatever.

Kirby brought all the things he’d been working on while superheroes were out of fashion back into this one. Monster comics, romance comics, Cold War hysteria sci fi, all mixed up with superheroes. Stan turns the melodrama to 11. Not a lot of his humor here, but enough.

Obviously this dude didn’t watch the Monopoly video.

Love when Nowlan inks guys who draw nothing like him. The sequel with him inking Bogdonove is even better!
