And that isn't because he jailed the rich. It's because he did something extremely popular. We can too, but clearly holding people accountable isn't going to win over the public as a whole.

I just think the reality is so much more complicated and we can fight for ideals, but should not be surprised when they aren't feasible. Democrats need to take advantage of this reality next like FDR did. Much of what he did was quite authoritarian but he lives on as one of the greats.

It's cope masquerading as hope. I have seen the same. Recognizing that these are emotional reactions, people writing things like that in media need to gain some clarity about what we've lost. This is the Overton Window. A fascist minority should not dictate our way of life.

My guess is the majority thought they weren't in fascist until they came after people like them. Hitler was very popular at the time. Trump isn't. There's differences and parallels. He could have explained that I suppose, to avoid gaslighting minorities who live like he said they would under fascism
