today's #ModWrite is appropriately aqueous, as I write a paper about the waves crashing on the shore and over the self in Ann Quin's novel Berg, ready for the @bristolcms.bsky.social Brat Symposium 🎶 Quin's my favourite reference baby 🎶

#modwrite: I'm getting started on researching Leonora Carrington's The Hearing Trumpet (1974) via ecocritical/ ecofeminist/ posthuman lens. I know Natalya Lusty's, Susan Suleiman's, Gloria Feman Orenstein's, Gabriel García Ochoa's work, but any suggestions for eco-readings of Carrington are welcome!

A bit late for #ModWrite this week because I was at my Monday 9 a.m. volunteer student book club. To the Lighthouse! Ecocritical Woolf! Students literally shouting NO WAY over some of the best square brackets in Anglophone fiction!

Just under a month to submit your proposals for panels, papers, roundtables, and workshop/seminar proposals for the joint BAMS/MSA 2026 Weird Modernisms Conference. Let's get weird!

Full details can be found here: www.moderniststudies.org/conference/M...
The deadline for the joint BAMS/ MSA conference is fast approaching! It's exactly one month away on December 1, 2025. Please note it's the same deadline for panels, papers, roundtables, and workshop/ seminar proposals. You can propose in-person or online panels/ roundtables (but not hybrids).
Believe it or not, it's already time to think about MSA 2026 in Loughborough, UK. The conference will meet July 1-4, and proposals for panels, papers, roundtables, workshops, and seminars is December 1. Please note this MUCH earlier deadline. The CFP is here: www.moderniststudies.org/conference/M...

today's #ModWrite I'm writing about illustrator Eric Fraser & his depiction of telephone trauma for Hamilton's radio play Money with Menaces. Fraser also invented 'Mr Therm' for British Gas: maybe the ultimate example of cute mascot & terrifying tagline?
