Love the origin of Mullyman’s name & this final paragraph. I think it was this piece with Lupe (bit.ly/43TN31t) where he says age is a gift for rappers, like you only get better with time. Glad Baltimore still has its OGs
Music and sports carried him through high school as he attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and then Walbrook High School. When he went to college at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, majoring in construction management, he was given the nickname Mullyman — Mully as an acronym for Master of Unorthodox Lyrics Leading You. He added “man” at the end to give the name a superhero aspect. He gained a reputation for battling rappers from other states and consistently coming out on top at UMES. The essential DNA of hip-hop culture is often left ignored as rappers chase social media numbers over learning the craft. The art of mastering things like live performance, breath control, counting bars, song structure, and song placement has taken a back seat in the life of today’s rap artists. But with OGs like Mullyman still around, there is hope, and room to continue the conversation about the longevity of an emcee.

Really glad I got to check out Relooted by @nyamakop.co.za at @mdffparkway.bsky.social. I was just already hooked by the idea of an Afro-futuristic Metroidvania but there’s also a lot of strategy involved. And my FAVORITE part is the digital museum of repatriated artifacts

I see we've entered the dystopian cyberpunk chapter where folks have to wear contacts to dupe these systems.

The hope I have is that these systems seem to not be that good. Reminds me of a scene in Cory Doctorow's Little Brother where Marcus slips gravel in his shoes to bypass gait detection

Listened to They Say this morning and decided to look up Kanye’s D’Angelo line. I had no idea it wasn’t just the oversexualization that got to him but the fact that it meant he couldn’t tell who was actually a fan of his music. He really cared about his art

I've heard a saying that “You’re only as disabled as society makes you.” What's the point of these facial recognition systems if they don't alleviate the hardships people with disabilities have? (The answer is probably that they weren't even made with that in mind)
“If you don’t include people with disabilities or people with facial differences in the development of these processes, no one’s going to think of these issues,” says Kathleen Bogart, a psychology professor at Oregon State University who specializes in disability research and lives with a facial difference. “AI has amplified these issues, but it’s rooted in long-standing underrepresentation and prejudice towards people with facial differences that occurred long before AI was a thing.”
