I think it is useful to have separate terminology for USA and the continent. As the USA right now is threatening other countries in the continent.

In some languages like Spanish, there's one continent of America. Saying North America and South America is like saying Northern Europe and Southern Europe. In these languages they have separate words for U.S. Citizens and continental Americans.
