They certainly despise art but they do understand it makes money. What generative AI actually "generates" is a new profit margin by reducing pay and bargaining power for artists. It's enshittification as enclosure—set fire to our fields to force artists into precarity as adjuncts to the enshittifier
It's increasingly clear that the people who make generative AI don't like films, don't like books, don't like art of any kind, and don't understand why anyone else does.

There's a bevy of posts circulating of famous sculptures with the question of WHY DON'T WE SEE THIS KIND OF TALENT ANYMORE and the answer is you don't support the arts, assholes. Those artists had patrons. They could work all day to perfect their craft without worrying about food and housing.
