Tita, a former witch's familiar and practicing magic still, wished for a familiar herself. In search for a proper pet, she found that most critters in the modern world were either too weak, hostile, or already domesticated. As such, she opted to try making a familiar herself. With limited resources, she found ceramic and glass to fit her needs and budget best, and after much trial and error, Mac was born into the world. Tita believes that Mac is under her control and will live and die for her, but in truth, Mac formed independent thinking the moment he was created, and simply does what she asks out of kindness (and to keep a roof over his head) Mac prefers He/Him pronouns but doesn't shy away from being referred to as an "it", and has embraced the term as he accepts his odd existence
