2/ Yeah, it was pricier & involved more personal interaction than those online offers. But it was *safer*. I had knowledgeable, well-trained people that I could trust to do things the right way always watching over me. My overall health has greatly improved, with stats I haven’t seen in 30+ years

sounds a lot like the Halle Berry Catwoman movie and Beauline, but grounded in the real world

ok, *only* if I had total control, Robert Asprin’s MythAdventures, Glen Cook’s Garrett, P.I., or Andre Norton’s Beast Master (that sword-&-sorcery knockoff stuff does *not* count)

Can’t recall any offhand tho I’m sure some have come close🤔 Nowadays I’m just cynically resigned to the fact that the target audience of adaptations is non-readers. So they fancy up characters, expand appealing parts, add gratuitous sex & violence, & cater to short attention spans. Plot be d*mned.

None. It’s too risky since Jackson’s LOTR made extensively rewriting published works for film fashionable. No longer just James Bond. It’s Hobbit, GOT, Expanse … or they could become small screen F&SF projects that channel ‘60s-70s when pulp authors got porn past censors by writing “science fiction”

Catnip filled wishes of Merry Christmas to all felines everywhere! And on this day of peace and joy, also to dogs!

when my signed copy of The Shattering Peace arrived, I found it inside the shipping box wrapped in tissue paper and multi layers of bubble wrap, every empty space in the box filled with packing paper Retail shipping should take lessons from @subpress.bsky.social

Whatever the origin, NORAD embraced the Santa Tracker. In the ‘70s my dad was a supervisor at one of NORAD’s ground-based satellite tracking stations spread across the US. He always worked the Christmas Eve shift so he could issue their midnight alert that a sleigh & reindeer had been detected

Have you checked out the floorplan? Those bathrooms look like they were afterthoughts. One upstairs bedroom doesn’t even have access to one. There’s no master closet space. But you know someone will think the location & view are worth investing in a $7M gut job that will take $2-3M more to complete

that’s a beauty! My bookcases were just Sauder’s DIY library units purchased over a 15 year span. It was going to cost more than what they were worth to move them. & I was already maxing the moving budget on the books themselves. When my husband said let’s just build your library, I couldn’t say no

Thanks. Bluesky has grammar police. An English teacher would have just redlined it and given me an F.

It only took 40 years to get my working library/walk-in display case. It *finally* exists bc it would have been too much $ & effort to safely move my already woefully inadequate library infrastructure, 15 very heavy DIY bookcases, over 1500 miles. My husband built the ladder as an anniversary gift

But *I’m* not ok with this. I prefer mass market. Ebooks are leases. Trades are $$ oversize PBs. I buy books to keep & reread. My collection, begun 60 yrs ago, keeps expanding, but library space doesn’t, so I wait for MMs. If trade is the only version available, I do buy it. Also special hardbacks.

not to mention the need to keep the book storyline and the almost-never-like-the book movie/tv storyline separate

I assembled the first two tree sections. I turned away to pick up the top, and when I turned back, I discovered my tree had an ornament named George sprawled on top.

You know, there’s a theory that if a team wants to win, it should copy the behaviors of a championship team. But I really don’t think it means that the Wild needs to surpass Florida’s injury list.
