It just feels like we’ve hit the bread and circuses portion of the United States -

and the bread it too expensive and they’re taking away the circuses.

So now we suddenly wake from the stupor and actually see the idiocracy around us.

I’m tired.

Why is this particular disregard for federal law and precedence different than ANY OTHER TIME? Trump has never even pretended to follow the law - and we let him get away with it again and again.

The state already owns or controls the media - especially social media. This shouldn’t be news to us!

Seeing so many people up in arms about the TikTok pr stunt just makes me tired.

Is *this* the thing we’re getting worked up about?

To quote Dr King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail:

The greatest stumbling block to freedom is ‘the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice.’

We (the white left) spent so long worshiping civility that the rules changed right in front of our faces - because we would not draw a line in the sand.

I’m living with the truth that my daughters will less rights and a worse life that I am bc we valued moderation and would not be pragmatic.

8 years ago, when Richard Spencer was punched in the face on camera, many of my colleagues took to social media wringing their hands about how violence is always wrong.

One of them typed out *sigh* in a Twitter response to me when I replied that violence against neo-nazis might be reasonable.

I miss Bill Walton.
