Apparently it is a collection of surveillance records of "subversive " and gang elements from 1930s to 1980s collected by CPD, and is only accessible under terms of a court order.

One interesting thing that occurred while we were there was someone checked in to access the archive's Red Squad collection, and yhe whole security process she had to work with to do so: no camera, no bags, was being observed on camera the whole time.
