Winter is setting in Minnesota with our first snow and then ice starting to form on our lakes. To a winter storm that really makes it feel like a good old fashioned Minnesota winter.

From the Arctic down to Florida, an unprecedented smoke plume is crossing North America, due to 188 currently active fires. Ninety-six of them are out of control, and the consequence is visible in this Sentinel 5 map of Aerosol Index captured on May 31.

#Minnesota lake water clarity trends 1985-2022. Notice hot spots of decreasing water clarity in agricultural areas and in fairly pristine northern Minnesota potentially due to increasing temperature. Improving clarity in the Twin Cities potentially due to BMPs.
