Paul Pickowicz, who took the photo when he visited China in 1971 as part of a Committee of Concerned Asian Scholars delegation, also contributed the book's epilogue.

From the archives: Chiang Kai-shek with the "Formosa" basketball squad that finished fourth at the 1959 FIBA World Championships. In some Cold War drama, the team had 2-0 wins against the USSR & Bulgaria, who refused to play them. James T.L. Chen 陳祖烈 was the tournament's leading scorer at 20.1 ppg.
