We’re seeing viral posts urging people to sit down/stay silent if violence emerges.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT.

In certain circumstances with activists highly trained in civil disobedience this *can* be effective.

At a mass protest, it is a recipe for disaster.

This is obvious, but if people broadly rely on a black box to give them answers that help them understand the world, whoever controls the black box controls those answers and therefore the understanding that comes from them.

Openness is safety.

Worth repeating.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.
