Yep! That’s the one I hinted at with upholding standards from one and applying it to another. I’ve never considered Zorn to be a band dude. Even some band dudes (Eno) stop being band dudes when they veer into composition. And some band dudes (Zappa) were never truly band dudes. They just had bills.

Hahaha yeah, that’s relatable. I love those moments because they are usually gentle reminders to check in with myself. Do I not relate to this because I’m not the intended audience? Has my relationship with the form changed and in what way? Am I tired or hungry or not emotionally receptive rn?

I personally find the idea of policing how “emotionally invested” an artist is in what influences their art to be a tad disingenuous.

Yeah, my take is that it’s trying to apply a standard from one world onto another one. And when you mix things (as you should IMO) it does get messy and some folks will loudly try and uphold their personal Platonic Forms.
