Housing is expensive because companies buy up property and convert it into luxury homes and apartments, or air bnbs. We have never had a "not enough houses" problem

Confused: if housing is too expensive for the average middle class American, how can undocumented immigrants working in car washes, restaurants and harvesting crops afford housing in the same market?
