Bœuf bourguignon is marinating in A LOT of wine.

Not sure I've ever cooked a dish so costly in terms of the price of ingredients.

Ah fuck it. Life is short.
A mess of carrots, onions, garlic and leek, cut into large pieces, is jumbled into a pot with salt, pepper, bay leaves and sprigs of thyme. The same jumble as photo 1 with added pieces of beef chuck (paleron in French - so much more elegant than "chuck" ffs), 1.2 litres of red wine, 1 litre of beef stock. More salt and pepper. Leave to marinate for 3 or 4 hours.
