Ok, how does this lifeboat inflate? Can I even do this without senpais to notice me?

I have opinions on things, especially DC theatre, especially ones that got a major critic to block me on that other hellsite. They are mine, but you can borrow them.
Ah, live performance, the place where you should always expect a bait and switch. (Lisa Vroman is sick so no one said anything to until check in so it would be harder to ditch the replacement.) Here's the Azeri food that's now my only justification for going to Old Town on my day off. (It was good.)

I wonder what play this is.

Invaders at Dupont Circle metro, P Street side, inside the gates.

Lasted longer than I expected. That's our lesson.

Throwback to shutdowns past: Laramie Project at Ford's was the first time I saw Kimberly Gilbert, after they were allowed back in the theatre. So of course I'm seeing her during another shutdown!

Woolly Mammoth uses more dirt than any other theatre in town. Last season was very clean, little mulch. Glad to see the return to form. (Thoroughly enjoyed The Great Privation.)

My bag has no money, just spicy lamb meatballs and an apricot honey cookie. I must be doing something right, unlike Tom Homan.

Would you like something else on your timeline? Would you like to not think directly about the horrors for 8 hours? You owe it to yourself to go get emotionally wrecked at Round House, even (maybe especially) on a school night. The Inheritance is the most beautiful thing I've seen in years.

Lucky Danger is too much food, which means I get crab lo mein two days!

Occupation report: 8 pm, Gallery Place F Street entrance. Two going off duty, it looked like, two with surveillance presence watching Red line platform from the overpass (pictured). Unable to answer how a tourist gets to Orange line. 😆 No long guns.
August 29, 2025 at 12:15 AM
The world is terrible, so do something nice for yourself and go to Round House to see The Inheritance and cry there. (Part 1 is absolutely stunning and I have to wait two weeks for Part 2.)

Occupied DC Evening shift, Navy Yard. 4 outside, 3 inside. Armed, still no long guns.
August 27, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Occupation update: three soldiers with side arms at Archives Metro, two soldiers with side arms at Navy Yard DOT entrance, both sets outside the faregates, looking bored. They should be at home, not here.

What the Postal Museum makes clear is that an over 200 year project to connect the individual directly to the state through carefully targeted service provision has been destroyed in the 21st century, and you really feel that as everything nice in society is being deliberately wrecked.

Thank you to the kitchen and front of house staff at L'Ardente. Restaurant Week lunch has actual patrons, 40 layer lasagna, and good service. As long as I'm employed, I'm trying to keep other people employed. We live here in this real city that relies on all of us together.

Union Station. Scenes from our waste, fraud, abuse, overreach occupation. 3 pm on a Friday, no one policing the hordes of Catholic school boys who were descending into the Metro. Or hassling the people in the area I passed through, thank god. This is distraction operation right now, I think.
August 22, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Changeover in patrons (not an increase) around 7:30. Highly recommend the sugar toads, which are also on the normal menu. No sign of occupation behind Politics and Prose or at Waterfront metro.
August 20, 2025 at 12:09 AM
Do nice things for yourself. Restaurant Week at Fish Shop on the Wharf. Super dead because of the occupation.

Doom scroll break: it is a beautiful day with cloud cover keeping the sun diffuse and a lovely breeze. Ideal weather for FreshFarm Silver Spring market.

A thought for RFK Jr.
August 13, 2025 at 10:29 PM
For the second half of this weekend's double feature of "musicals about not being Black in the way the characters' parents want", A Strange Loop in ASL and spoken English from VOCA. (The Austin run of this copro has been cancelled because fuck this administration. Great production getting screwed.)
August 10, 2025 at 9:40 PM
The Majestic only hosts shows where a domineering nutjob forces a young girl with daddy issues into an inappropriate stage career she is doing solely to avoid bloodshed. (Audra is fantastic.)
August 9, 2025 at 7:31 PM
@darthbluesky.bsky.social , I finally smoshed the potatoes! You were right, more oil. I'll do better next time (there will be a next time.)
August 5, 2025 at 12:48 AM
Getting my shitty leadership fictional-historical with a great playlist tonight. (King John with Shakespeare Theatre's ACA Summer Rep)

While I still can, and also to annoy RFK Jr specifically. (TDAP and HPV)
