It's been a great couple days at the #SHS2025 @socialhistsoc.bsky.social conference. I enjoyed presenting my research on the bureaucratic graffiti of the 1921 Census. Always wonderful to meet new people and hear about the breadth of work currently being worked on.

Celebratory glass of wine after passing my PhD upgrade today. A big weight has lifted. I have been given the privilege to continue to lock myself in my office to write and research 😁. Three more years with all my 1921 Census darlings.

Historians! My PhD student is researching 'graffiti' in the census (i.e. marginalia, comments, etc) and wants to put it in convo with other studies on marginalia/bureaucratic graffiti (the term she is using) in different time periods. Any suggestions for readings?
