I think they might possibly be the same insect: nymphs of the boxelder bug (_Boisea trivittata_) at different ages. Looks like they * should * be feeding on maple, but I did also find a report (wci.extension.colostate.edu/box-elder-bu...) of predatory/scavenging behaviour
