Techdirt guy. I once wrote a paper about "Protocols, not Platforms" that seems to be slightly relevant. Also can follow my Bluesky posts at @mmasnick.bsky.social

[bridged from https://mastodon.social/@mmasnick on the fediverse by https://fed.brid.gy/ ]
@rabble @wjmaggos @onthemedia @blaine and to be clear at no time did I, or would I, have ever suggested I came up with the idea. The point of the paper was directly to remind more people of the existence of such things, and how it made sense as a path forward.

@jetton yeah. i mean the game punishes toxicity, and we do have the concept of federation/defederation in the game...

@evan there are ways to disagree without being disagreeable. You know that I've supported your work and your mission.

I'm not asking you to support mine.

But it is a choice to be antagonistic. But, fair enough, you have made it clear I am not welcome here. I am out.

@tomw and the company has explained how it intends to build a sustainable, non-enshittifying business model. If we can't do that, the project will fail.

@markdarb @evan bridges are great. Bluesky folks are happy with bridges. To date, the only community that seemed to get upset by bridges was... this one?
October 29, 2024 at 9:46 PM
@troed you make three assumptions in that statement and I disagree with all three.

If Bluesky goes down the enshittification path, it will die.

@evan I understand your hostility here and, but honestly, find it a bit off-putting.
