Greetings everyone!

Don’t mind me, just your friendly neighborhood Astrophysics Major, currently at UCSC (go slugs!)

Besides astro and science in general, I’m also interested in history, philosophy, Japan, and nerd culture.

UPDATE: I did the math for an *extremely* simplified model of a shell of gas located at Jupiter’s orbit, having Jupiter trace one rotation through that shell. I found that Jupiter would absorb roughly 2,000,000 Mount Everests worth of mass…. only 1 TRILLIONTH of its own! Not nearly the 80x needed!

Beautiful! Low key, a full-blown vocaloid-portal crossover would be dope as hell

Even when they are overly skeptical, are they not justified in seeking a degree of certainty? Even if they are demanding an unreasonable standard of evidence, that’s just further motivation for us to do better to soothe their fears and doubts, and also to gather more data and communicate it better.

People should not be shunned for asking questions, even questions we think are stupid or arise because of their ignorance. They question the nature of things we take to be obvious not because they are somehow inferior or malicious, but because they have genuine concerns.

Instead, we who call ourselves scientists need to actually connect with and educate people as people, not pedagog to sheep as shepherds. We cannot merely preach without explanation, assuming authority on the basis of a glorified piece of paper received from university.

Good to know that he apparently wanted to sexually assault his classmates when he was 14. Clearly a guy worth listening to 🙄

Let me close by saying that this is not a condemnation of liberalism. This is my diagnosis of the affliction which seems to be slowly killing liberal societies all across the globe. Until liberals act like political animals rather than marble statues, don’t be surprised when they get eaten.

While the center has apparently failed to see the need to play politics, the left has proven too schizophrenic and unfocused to play effectively, whereas the right has shown that not only are they willing to play, but that they are extremely effective players who are more than willing to cheat.

The sad fact is that liberalism cannot succeed on its own. It requires activists who believe in strong institutions, the rule of law, democracy, secularism, and cosmopolitanism. It requires people not only being educated as to why the old ways are bad, but why liberalism is good *for them*.

However, the crux of all of this is flawed. It arises from a narrow view of history which only really acknowledges the political developments of the 19th and 20th centuries at the exclusion of all others. Furthermore, it wrongly assumes that all opposition will magically inevitably disappear.

Another item of note is that liberals think they are too good for propaganda. They believe that rather than “brainwashing” people, that liberals instead “educate” them so they can use their aforementioned intelligence to arrive at the aforementioned conclusions.
