It is good that concrete discussion are being held. But this is all theory. The USA has threatened allies repeatedly, why not Ukraine? Russia is unlikely to approve NATO troops getting close. Few parlaments will allow troops in Ukraine, and the few deployed won't stand up to Russia.

Sure. I seem to remember that such guarantees were given once but ignored when called for.
Who would give *credible* guarantees that would stand in, say, 10 years? The USA? France? UK? Any of these countries are an election away from becoming Russian assets. Ukraine cannot depend on anyone else.

All of Trump is zig-zag. Tariffs on, tariffs off. Electric cars are bad, and now he makes commercials for one. Europe should do more, EU is just bad for USA. The man is a giant zig zag, possibly because just doing SOMETHING is what is expected of him. Consequences be damned and easily forgotten.

Wasn’t freedom of speech something the USA excels in? Or was it freedom to lie unopposed? Seems it is the latter. That elected representatives are afraid to speak is telling of where the USA is now and where it is going.

I think that Trump wants a share in the minerals. If he gets them from Ukraine or Russia isn’t important to him. He is playing both sides. He is proving to Putin that he is willing to abandon Ukraine (and Europe), which I think is the preferred option.

Europes strategy has been hope for the best (and NOT prepare for the worst). It is 10+ years since the Krym takeover and still Europe lacks the capacity to even produce ammunition for weapons in Ukraine.

What are the possibilities to require suspect ships to take on board "consultants" that would help them find their way in the Baltics and keep track of the anchor while under way? Obviously this would be a paid service. The limited number of available consultants would limit the number of ships.

I would add the Illusion of the USA.
Europe needs to stand on its own. We have already lost at least 10 years (since the Crimea invasion) on the illusion that the USA would stand firm, despite loud and clear signals to the opposite. Europe lacks conviction and sense of urgency.
