I have now connected the dress and have the following left before it’s finally done:

☑️ finish binding bodice and attaching to structural underpinning

☑️ cut and bind hem (I am not excited about this, it scares me to take scissors to the dress at this stage)

☑️ install zipper

This was my first try at migrating darts quite so dramatically and I’m pretty pleased with what I learned here. With the mockup looking right, I cut out the fabric and lining and got to assembling my beautiful emerald green satin dress.

The main issue was that the front darts on the bodice were too far forward and the seams for the gores were too far from the center. I did a bit of adjusting of my original pattern for the bodice and ended up with something that curved those seams in a much more sculptural way around the waist

Once I assembled that bodice I also assembled the skirt, basing my design directly off the reference by sight and guesswork rather than using a pattern. This actually got me pretty dang close

I started off with the bodice because I knew the skirt was going to be two panels and two gores and that I needed the bodice seams finalized before I got that far.

I scrounged around my patterns and found this one which had darts that looked pretty similar to what I had seen in the original

So much has happened and I’ve been so crap at documenting it! Time to start a new thread

2.5 after much pinning and repinning I have finished binding the hem of the petticoat please enjoy this very safe for work partial try on

2.4 the skirt was exactly as annoying as I thought it would be. I’m adding the final binding to both layers. It’s not beautiful, but it does its job and no one will ever see it but me. I am currently concerned the tulle isn’t stiff enough to support the skirt but I am past the point of caring.

2.3 learning from my mistakes on the solstice dress, I added a temporary zipper to the bodice for ease of try on during the whole process. Also I really just love all the lil marks on the exterior of the fabric. All my notes and registrations preserved for The Future™️
