I spent my first 12 professor-years teaching in a school with a high proportion of students from the bottom quintile. The math/science ones wanted to be doctors not professors because of the perceived economic advantages: more money and less risk. I can't say they were wrong

FYI: I have been studying essential oils for over 30 years. They have, in effect, paid for my cars, house, kids' tuitions, and medical bills from too much sniffing.

and banded small birds as part of their efforts to understand eastern migrants coming up west coast. there seem to be two groups, ones who head up/down the intermountain west and get blown over (few) and ones who have their maps/compasses flipped and aim N/S W when they should head N/S E. /2

very nice pic. yes to b&w warbler. range map is correct, AND sitings are real. those few points on ebird represent a small fraction of total along west coast (based on banding data, more below) but a MUCHMUCHMUCH smaller fraction of total population.
