Their ability to deploy protective behaviors during the pandemic, such as paying for private healthcare, appears to be partially responsible. Our findings highlight the importance of individual adaptive strategies as determinants of heterogeneous outcomes during health crises.

We found that the decrease in preterm birth among private healthcare patients is partially driven by women with higher education levels, particularly those with upper secondary studies.
