For context, from the early 1850s until his death in 1865, Lincoln held that slaves and free black peoples were intellectually inferior to the "superior" white race. From as early as 1854, Lincoln advocated for a policy of deportation of all freed slaves to Haiti, Mexico, and or Liberia.
