Fwiw, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Endor and the Ewoks specifically were supposed to be the Vietnam allegory. Deeply paternalistic and insulting to the Vietnamese people, but political none the less.

100% agree. Despite their bucolic surroundings, those little Hobbits brought the war home. Merry in his hobbit house punching mirrors like Martin Sheen in the opening of Apocalypse Now and Pippin drunk at the Prancing Pony ranting about watching his friends die face down in the mud.

Also worth noting that a large number of FS employees who are not in primary fire roles ARE fully qualified wildland firefighters and routinely step away from their day jobs to join fire crews or conduct fire patrols and enforce regulations while full-time firefighters are on the fireline
