Can’t recommend enough taking a prolonged break from something that’s frustrating you. Turns out there was not so very much left that needed correcting since I’d remade the bodice, so putting the rest of the dress together was pretty stress-free!
A nearly completed garment that closely matches the description of the dress shown in the pattern above, made out of a navy blue fabric with white line drawings of astronauts and various space probes. A thin white ribbon on all four upper sides of the stomach pentagon and the two inner of three visible lower sides of each hip pentagon highlights the lines of those panels that would otherwise be lost in the patterned fabric. The ends of the sleeves and the skirt are still unhemmed.

Bought this vintage Marian Martin pattern two years ago along with some astronaut-themed cotton, thinking it would be a nice quick sewing project to make myself a sundress for a planned Lunar Landing Day celebration. In the past I’d mostly done projects that I’d made up as I went along, so a-
Booklet for a mid-1950’s style short-sleeved dress with a stand-up mock halter neck collar, interesting lines where one pentagonal panel on the stomach follows into a pentagonal panel on each hip, with gathers at the bosom and skirt at the top and bottom of these panels respectively.
