With the US vacating the soft-power space at lightening speed, it's even more critical for the UK to step up and invest in the BBC World Service, British Council and our other flagship intl programmes. China/Russia are buying up the airwaves unchallenged, to their advantage.
Iran's main aim now in Syria is to destabilise the country to the detriment of the new government. Israel should tread lightly in response to threats from Syria - deterrence shouldn't lead to destabilisation.

Entirely right, from Israel's former Labor PM Ehud Barak. Most Israelis entirely agree with him. The stranglehold of fanatics in this coalition government is yet another sign of the destructiveness of populist nationalism.
