Weddings have always been stuck in the values of their time:

- In agrarian societies, it was about property & patriarchy.
- In aristocratic society, it was about prestige & power.
- And today, it’s about the consumerism & optics of late capitalist culture.

The more weddings you go to, the more they all start to feel the same.

You end up sitting through the same choreographed sequences: the grand entrance, first dance, parent speeches, cake cutting.

It's less like going to a party and more like being a parent at a school play.
