New paper out! 📢 We tested whether boat activity from an eel telemetry study disturbed protected waterbirds in a UK reservoir.

🦆 No evidence of disturbance.
🌦️ Bird numbers varied with weather + season.

The impact of boat activities associated with an acoustic fish telemetry study on waterbird populations in a Special Protection Area
It is widely recognized that the research techniques used to monitor and study wildlife have the potential to disturb and alter the behavior of the study species. However, other impacts on sensitive,...

In this month's blog post, I demonstrate how to visualize shipping traffic data using R. The tutorial covers downloading the dataset from EMODnet, performing exploratory data analysis, and creating a map using ggplot2.

Herculean collation of >12K megafauna tracks, >100 species, reveals 75% overlap of critical habitats with shipping, fishing, pollution or warming. Protection targets not enough to safeguard megafauna.

Great new paper out on the impacts of pharmaceutical pollution in salmonids by @jack-brand.bsky.social and colleagues.
First data paper from my postdoc is now out in Proc B!

We found that psychoactive pollution decreased the migration success of brown trout in a natural lake system! Massive thanks to the coauthor team for their work on this!
